Chloe Diegel began farming with an internship at Hedgerow Farm outside of Boulder, CO in the summer of 2003 after graduating from Macalester College in St. Paul, MN. She worked for a local farm at the Santa Barbara, California farmer's market during the winter of 2003-2004. In the winter of 2005, she returned to Boulder to help Anne and Paul Cure open Cure Organic Farm, where she worked as the Field Manager from 2005 through 2007. In February of 2008, she started an internship at Good Companion Bakery on Boundbrook Farm in Vergennes, Vermont where she learned the craft of wood-fired bread baking, draft horse management and grain farming. In addition, she began a vegetable CSA as a side venture for the growing season of 2008. She returned to Cure Organic Farm as a farmer for the 2009 growing season where she expanded the operations to include organic cut flowers.
Alex McKiernan graduated from Macalester College in 2002, and began graduate school in Geology at the University of Wyoming in 2003. He finished his M.S. in Hydrology in December of 2005 and decided to pursue a more hands-on skill and trade. During 2006, he was trained as a diesel mechanic at WyoTech in Laramie, Wyoming and in January of 2007 began work as a mechanic for the local mass transit district in Boulder, Colorado. He and Chloe lived together on Boundbrook Farm in Vermont during 2008 while he worked for a farm equipment dealership and gained experience with agricultural equipment maintenance. After moving back to Boulder in 2009, he rebuilt John Deere engines and worked for a local arborist. He has educated himself extensively on livestock and grazing management, and began managing Robinette's small herd of beef steers in August of 2009.
Chloe and Alex were married in August of 2008 and in December of 2009 moved back to Chloe's hometown of Lincoln, Nebraska to start a farm and a family, and they are expecting their first child this April. They look forward to operating a farm together that can support their family, the community, and their diversity of interests.
